‘C-Care launches ‘One Life, One Tree’
C-Care is pleased to announce its new partnership with the NGO Friends of the Environment around its ecological and social initiative ‘One Life, One Tree’. The kickoff took place on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, on the slopes of la Petite Montagne at La Citadelle attended by C-Care’s executive committee members, new parents, volunteer staff, and the team from Friends of the Environment.
Indeed, for every birth in a C-Care facility, a tree is planted, thus contributing to the reforestation and restoration of our local biodiversity. Parents participating in the initiative will receive a certificate, and each planted tree will be easily identifiable by a unique label,
allowing families to visit and follow the growth of their tree. This gesture aims to in still a sense of connection and responsibility towards the environment among the younger generation.
The initiative extends beyond Mauritius, reflecting C-Care Group’s long-standing commitment to environmental conservation, with similar efforts underway in Uganda. On average, C-Care plans to plant 1,000 indigenous plants in Mauritius and 2,000 in Uganda annually.
This initiative joins the ‘Citadelle Native Re-vegetation Project’. This forest restoration program, managed by Friends of the Environment, focuses on revitalizing the natural biodiversity of Mauritius, particularly the heavily degraded landscapes on the slopes of la Petite Montagne, by planting indigenous plants adapted to the region’s dry climate, which grew in the same place several centuries ago.
