Dr. Mathoorah is committed to providing quality and compassionate perioperative anaesthetic care and motivated to apply evidence-based guidelines during her work. She has particular focus on acute pain management and special interest in obstetric, vascular, trauma, regional and cardiothoracic anaesthesia.
She has had extensive exposure to cutting edge technology in South Africa, while providing anaesthetic care during robotic surgery, laparoscopic cases, renal transplant, combined ENT and plastic surgery, spine surgery, major neurosurgical cases, cardio-thoracic cases requiring cardio-pulmonary bypass, lung isolation and more recently ECMO.
In terms of ICU experience, she has worked in the cardio-thoracic ICU, surgical ICU, medical ICU, COVID ICU. She has also managed patients in burns ICU as well as neurosurgical ICU.
Proficient in transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography, ultrasound guided regional anaesthesia, awake fibreoptic intubation, one lung ventilation techniques.
Experience as a research investigator clinician on multiple projects in the divisions of pulmonology, molecular biology and human genetics at the biomedical research institute of Stellenbosch university (SA).
