KAMPALA, UGANDA — C-Care Uganda, a leading private healthcare network, celebrated operational excellence at its annual awards ceremony Friday, July 25, 2025, recognizing outstanding performance across its network of facilities.

The event, held at Mestil Hotel, highlighted C-Care’s commitment to improving healthcare quality in Uganda. Dr. Rony Bahatungire, Commissioner Clinical Services at the Ministry of Health, commended the organization for acknowledging the hard work and contributions of health practitioners nationwide.

This year’s awards recognized facilities across nine categories for implementing innovative strategies, systems and tools to enhance patient experience and operational efficiency.

Andrew Mugalu, General Manager of C-Care IMC, emphasized the importance of this focus. “In professional healthcare, operational excellence is not just our goal, it’s a culture and we are building this culture to see that every patient interaction in our different facilities is meaningful,” Mugalu said.

He noted significant growth since last year, with patient numbers increasing from an average of 43,000 to 50,000 per month across C-Care’s facilities. The network has expanded to 22 healthcare facilities nationwide, with three centers — Mukono, Mbale and Gulu — transitioning to hospital status.

Azhar Sundhoo, CEO of C-Care Uganda, reflected on the journey since the awards’ inception a year ago. “We have become a place where excellence is embedded in the way we carry ourselves every day, and so with these awards we have seen the team raise the bar and put the patients first consistently,” Sundhoo stated.

Awards were presented across various operational areas, including Laboratory Services, Service Excellence, Facility Operations, Human Resources, Pharmacy, Nursing Protocols, Billing and Credit, and Financial Performance.

This second edition of the Excellence Awards reinforces C-Care’s commitment to promoting innovation and inspiring staff to uphold high healthcare standards.

Sundhoo concluded with a call to action for the C-Care team: “Excellence is not an event. It is the decisions, the consistent actions, and the high standards when no one is watching. Awards are not the goal. The impact is.”

Formerly known as International Medical Group, which included International Hospital Kampala (IHK) and International Medical Centres (IMCs), C-Care is one of Uganda’s largest private healthcare networks. It operates a tertiary, multispecialty hospital and 20 clinics across the country, aiming to provide accessible, affordable and high-quality healthcare.
